As a personal injury who handles only car wreck claims, how do you handle the medical treatment when a family member is injured in an automobile accident? Should you seek medical treatment after a wreck? Essentially, I did what I tell all my personal injury clients which is, “If the car was badly damaged, let the ambulance take you from the accident scene to the Emergency Room to get checked out”. So, in my son’s case, I went to meet him at the Emergency Room.

I understand that when you go to an Emergency Room, you know it is going to be hours before you are seen by a doctor. Nevertheless, I will encourage you to stay at the E.R. and get checked out.
In my son’s case, I knew he looked okay and that I did not expect any major injuries to be discovered. Still, we stayed through a long night of waiting because I have seen too much from the car injury claims I have handled. I have seen cases wherein my clients have suffered unexpected fractures or herniated disks that could cause paralysis. So yes, my advice to you is to always get checked out at the Emergency Room after a serious car accident.
Getting the Medical Bills Paid
Now that you are at the Emergency Room, you are worried about how these medical bills will be paid for and why they are asking for your car insurance when you were not at fault in causing the car accident. First and foremost, you need to understand that when it comes to personal injury claims, the insurance company for the at-fault driver will not pay any medical bills, or any part of a claim for pain and suffering, until they can make one lump sum payment that will resolve your entire injury claim, including your medical expenses.
