Thunder over Louisville is an incredible event. Thousands of people gather in downtown Louisville for the festivities, the air show and especially for the fireworks show later that night. However, when there’s a large event, alcohol will probably be consumed. Even if you haven’t been drinking, there’s a significant risk that you could be involved in a car wreck with a drunk driver. These cases are generally handled like any other collision, but because the at-fault driver was inebriated at the time of the collision, it’s often much easier to prove negligence. Here’s a link to a brief video attorney Jim Desmond recorded specifically addressing this issue: https://youtu.be/qfgxQx1f2Qg?si=EzVnMU8MDwScipbv
Insurance is a primary factor in handling a car wreck or motorcycle accident. In Kentucky, if you’ve been in a car wreck, you would normally automatically have up to $10,000 in no-fault coverage to pay some or all of your medical bills. This money can also be used to cover lost wages, if you need time off from work. Car wreck attorney Jim Desmond recorded a podcast episode about Kentucky no-fault coverage, also known as PIP coverage: https://youtu.be/a0M2MfmirC8?si=m6cbsq8XbeWZDgZV

If you were riding a motorcycle at the time of the collision, you may not have access to that $10,000 in no-fault coverage. This is sometimes refered to as “motorcycle PIP coverage.” While it automatically applies if you’re driving a car, the law places motorcyclists at a disadvantage. Here’s a brief video explaining why this happens and what you can do to protect yourself: https://youtu.be/t73SurmgnyQ?si=ojIoh7zeuuoeHNcA
Jim Desmond focuses his practice on automobile accident and motorcycle wreck cases. He’s not trying to be all things to all people. The law is simply too complicated for that. However, because he’s been focusing on motor vehicle accidents for so long, he’s very good at handling them for his injured clients. Jim has put together an entire series of pages on his website explaining how a motorcycle accident case is handled. You can begin reading that series by clicking this link: https://attorneydesmond.com/understanding-kentucky-motorcycle-accident-claims/
In Kentucky, there are many more car wrecks that you might imagine. If you’ve been involved in a collision, you need to seek the advice of an experienced injury attorney, not an attorney who mainly focuses on other areas of the law. Finally, Jim recorded a brief video that helps to explain why you specifically need an attorney who spends his/her time handling motorcycle and car accidents, instead of family law, real estate or criminal defense. Those areas are much different and the way an accident claim is effectively handled may seem foreign to a lesser experienced attorney. Here’s a brief video explaining why this should matter to you: https://youtu.be/_BJwbwjy2wk?si=vAqbtwXEmSzLHUq8.
